The Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Fund of the Community Foundation of Coffee County is funding three interns from Georgia Tech’s Smart Community Corps to create a comprehensive profile of the City of Douglas.  Interns Sarah Dyott, Ian Frazer, and Nijah James will create the profile that will be used for local economic development efforts.

The interns will connect with community leaders to better understand the resources of the community and gather data and information on city history, industry, employment, housing, community amenities and population. This research will become the foundation of an economic development strategy for the city.

All three interns are pursuing different fields of economic development.  Sarah Dyott, is studying City and Regional Planning & Master’s in Real Estate Development.  Her hometown is Alpharetta, Georgia and she plans to graduate from Georgia Tech in 2022.  Ian Frazer, is pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy.  His hometown is Herndon, Virginia and he plans to graduate in 2021.  Nijah James, is from Douglas and hopes to graduate in 2021 with an Undergraduate in Industrial Engineering.

“I am excited about my opportunity to use what I have learned in my field of study to assist my community in its development and economic growth,” says Nijah.  “I am also very excited to gain more experience and knowledge about the field I am pursuing.”
