As Douglas continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and reduce the spread of the virus, the City of Douglas asks that all restaurant owners and workers continue to remain attentive and adhere to the regulations set forth by Governor Kemp’s Executive Order   Restaurants who continue to be reported as non-compliant may be cited or fined accordingly to the Governor’s Orders.

“We know the public has differing opinions as we continue to deal with COVID-19 and many have become complacent with following our Governor’s Orders and COVID guidelines,” says City Manager Charles Davis.  “We are asking our restaurant owners to please continue to enforce the importance of adhering to the guidelines to their workers to protect themselves, as well as patrons.”

Recently, the city has been receiving reports of restaurants not enforcing guidelines however, guidelines are still in place and must be followed when operating a restaurant.  Some of the essential guidelines that are being reported as being overlooked in some restaurants, which are still in effect due to Executive Order, include:

  • Every worker should be screened and evaluated for COVID-19 symptoms each shift.   
  • Restaurant owners/managers should continue to require workers to wear face coverings or a face shield when interacting with patrons.  
  • Hand Sanitizer should be provided for use by workers and patrons, including contactless hand sanitizing stations when available.  
  • Seating arrangements in all restaurants should ensure at least six (6) feet of separation from seating to seating or utilizing physical barriers to separate groups of seating within six (6) feet.  
  • Signage should be posted on entrances that no one with Symptoms of COVID-19 is permitted in the restaurant and where practicable, physical barriers such as partitions or Plexiglas at registers should be used.  
  • Employees should clean and sanitize table condiments, digital ordering devices, check presenters, self- service areas, tabletops, and commonly touched areas, and discard single use items in between diners.  
  • Patrons should not congregate in waiting areas or bar areas.
