The City of Douglas Community Development Department is looking for volunteers to spearhead a Keep America Beautiful (KAB) campaign in Douglas and become a Keep America Beautiful affiliate.

“We have organizations in our community who work tirelessly to keep Douglas beautiful and litter free,” says Mayor Tony Paulk.  “The City is willing to pay the fee to become a certified affiliate of the Keep America Beautiful program, if a volunteer group is willing to partner with us to spearhead efforts to attain the certification through volunteers.”

Keep America Beautiful affiliates are community based and represent communities that range in geographic area, population, and budget.  A common goal among all the communities is that they share the desire to make their community vibrant through litter prevention, recycling and waste reduction, and beautification.  Education and behavior changes are KAB cornerstones and affiliates’ service projects are based on the knowledge and needs of the local community.  According to KAB, for every $1 invested by local government, KAB Affiliates return an average of $34 on the investment.  KAB Affiliates achieve sustainable, tangible results with demonstrated impact.

KAB builds community affiliates through a step by step process.  The process begins with volunteers forming a Keep Douglas Beautiful Team.  If you or your organization is interested in helping form Keep Douglas Beautiful, please contact Christian Mikell in the Community Development Department, at 912-383-0277 or email
