On Thursday evening, June 13, 2019, East Coast Asphalt, LLC notified the City of Douglas that they will be closing Van Davis Road and Bonwell Royal Road on Monday, June 17, 2019 to begin construction in accordance to a Realignment Project. This project is part of the phase one plan for the Premier Sports Complex, under the City of Douglas Capital Improvement Projects.
The Premiere Sports Facility is a joint project of the City of Douglas and Coffee County Commission, funded through S.P.L.O.S.T. funds. Plans for phase one calls for a road realignment, with a turnabout, to connect access to existing and future athletic facilities, to the entrance of the JC Adams Municipal Park.
The Van Davis Road realignment has been awarded, by the Coffee County Board of Commissioners, to East Coast Asphalt LLC. East Coast Asphalt LLC will be closing Van Davis Road on June 17, 2019, to begin construction and will reopen Van Davis on or before September 2, 2019.
“We are aware this may cause some inconveniences for possible summer athletics and also the Fireworks Show on July 4, 2019”, says Mike Hudson, Douglas Utilities Director. “We have a road closure plan that will still allow access to parking and the facilities in the area. The plan is to have the road reopened for the first Coffee High Trojan Football game. We are supplying a map that shows the planned closure points on all roads affected by this project”.
